The show that started it all, A Silly Silverstein Show, was adapted by Jessica from the words and music of Shel Silverstein for its world premier as part of the Skidmore College worskshop program in Spring 2007.  Since then, variations of the show revised by the company have been performed at the Saratoga Arts Festival, at Camp Jewell YMCA, and, most notably, at the New York International Fringe Festival in Summer 2008.  Our agreement with the Silverstein estate prevents us from showing you pictures from the actual production, but double click on the picture for photographs of us building the puppets and rehearsing.  For excerpts from reviews of the piece as performed at Fringe, click here.

A Silly Silverstein Show

Super Happy Fun Time Puppet Cabaret

The Did’s second show was Jessica’s Senior Project Super Happy Fun Time Puppet Cabaret.  Presented in Skidmore College’s Blackbox Theater, the piece featured Jessica, Emily and Katarra’s designing skills on some new types of puppets, including some experimentation with the Japanese art of bunraku.  Luke acted as musical director and narrator and Rob was featured in a full-body puppet as the company performed renditions of songs by The Blow, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Beatles, The Decemberists and Whitney Houston.  Double click for pics and click here and here for video excerpts on YouTube.

The Lost Children

The Lost Children is a ten-minute piece conceived for The Experimental Puppet Theater Festival at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia.  Directed by Jessica and designed by Jessica and Katarra, The Lost Children was a shadow puppet piece that retold the French folk tale that inspired Hansel and Gretel.  Featuring original music by Luke, the piece premiered in the Spring of 2009 with narration by Patrick Martin and a number of very talented new puppeteers.  The entire piece is available for viewing on YouTube after the jump (click the Devil!).
